2023/24 Major Pairs

The final of the Mens Major Pairs was an exhilarating display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, and I am delighted to report the thrilling outcome to all of you.

In an intense battle that had spectators at the edge of their seats, the team of Brien Dengate & Robert Holt took an early lead, leading the team of John Farr & Mick Debono for nine ends. The tension in the air was epic as the score evened at the 10th end, setting the stage for a showdown that will be remembered for years to come.

However, the Legends, Dengate & Holt, weren’t ready to relinquish their grasp on the title. They displayed remarkable skill and composure, securing four straight ends in a row and keeping their championship dreams alive. The NBC Sport Club balcony was electric with excitement as the legends showed the mettle that has made them a force to be reckoned with in the Major Pairs Competition.

Nonetheless, the tides of competition are known to shift, and the 15th end was a pivotal moment in this epic showdown. Farr & Debono demonstrated their resilience, scoring two crucial shots that took the score to 17-10. The crowd erupted in applause, sensing that a remarkable comeback might be on the horizon.

It was the 16th end that would prove to be the last shot scored by the Legends. In a breathtaking turn of events, Farr and Debono displayed remarkable teamwork and unwavering determination, digging their heels into the green and clawing their way back into contention. In the final five ends, they showcased exceptional skill, determination, and composure, chipping away at their opponents’ lead, one shot at a time.

In the end, it was Farr and Debono who emerged as our 2023-2024 Men’s Pairs Club Champions, showcasing that in the world of lawn bowls, true champions are those who persevere and shine under pressure. We extend our congratulations to them for their remarkable achievement and for representing the spirit of our club so well.

But the journey doesn’t end here. John Farr and Michael Debono have qualified to participate in the prestigious Champion of Champion Pairs event, scheduled for April 29th and 30th, 2024. We will be cheering them on as they represent the NBC Sports Club on this esteemed stage.
